Design Your Own Christmas Cards
Every year as the holiday season draws near, people get ready to send Christmas cards to their loved ones and friends. Some send e-cards and some use the social networking sites to convey their greetings. However, some, realizing the importance of the occasion, prefer to make their own. When trying to make unique cards for the people of their choice, there always remains the question of what could be the best way to design it.
A design is always a personal choice. The image to be used, the colors it will have, the subject matter inside, the greetings it will convey, are all dependent on two people at the least; one is the sender and the other, the recipient. However, general tips can always be provided, so that a beginner has a platform to start the design.

Christmas is a time for joy and cheer. Your card needs to convey this. The image that will be drawn on the card should be a cheerful one. Bright colors are always preferred. However, the colors should not be gaudy or look out of place.
It is usual for some greeting to appear on the top face of the card. This could be written in a cursive or flowing writing, dressed in colors. The writing need not be formal or written in a straight line; anything out of the ordinary is acceptable as long as it conveys the warmth and right feelings of the occasion.
The shape of the card need not be a formal rectangle. Give your card an unusual shape; maybe oval or the shape of a flower petal. Other designs could be borrowed from nature, books, or the Internet. The material could be paper, plastic, cloth, or anything that takes your fancy. Creativity knows no bounds. It could even be a combination of two materials.
It does happen often, when we need them most, inspirations disappear. Therefore, when you sit down to make a card, if the mind draws a blank, do not fret. If you are unable to provide your own words, there is no harm in stealing from someone else. There are so many greetings, sayings and quotes floating around; you will easily be able to pick something to your choice.
Instead of wondering what to write inside the card, concentrate on the feelings of the person who is to receive it. Think about how overwhelmed they will feel when they realize the effort and the amount of time you spent on making it. The warmth that a written personal message gives is unequaled. So, when concentrating on the feelings you will easily be able to come up with something appropriate.
Gold and silver foils are very useful items to decorate cards with. They are available as strips also and can be useful in making up the border of the cards. If you are a good artist, or have undergone a course in Origami, the Japanese art of folding paper, then card making will be very comfortable for you.
